Matt Lube and Luke Elms started out their musical careers together in the summer of 2011 in a local Orlando band called Redwax. The band, consisting of Matt (bass) and Luke (vocals / guitars) and Chad Smith (vocals / guitars) recorded an album titled "The Calm Before" in the spring of 2014. WOW - 3 years ago. Dan Purcell tracked drums on the album. In the years leading up to the recording of that album, Matt and Luke enjoyed writing and playing together and doing a few shows out as an "electric duo." What started out as just jamming when the rest of Redwax was busy has led to more than just a side project - it's now our band. BLUEANIMAL.
In May of 2015 we got in the studio in the studio to record 13 new songs, plus a couple of surprises. Hippies and Beauty Queens. Some of the material didn't make, or quite fit the Redwax project, and many others are songs that we had written and worked on together. Luke and I spent countless hours in our home studio writing, recording rough demos and constantly changing the songs - are were really happy how they ended up. For Hippies, we were so excited to have Luke's childhood friend and former high school bandmate Jarrod Moore (Tulsa, OK) join us on lead guitar, and were especially excited that original Redwax drummer Ryan Wright (Delray Beach, FL) laid down the drum tracks ! ! Prior to getting into the studio - we got together with Ryan and Jarrod for a weekend of rehearsals and a gig - and despite being away from us for a couple of years, Ryan didn't miss a beat (literally !!) and Jarrod - having never played with us before - knew all of our songs. It was so much fun. For the most part the recording sessions thankfully were just as smooth. In the months following the recording of Hippies and Beauty Queens - we were thrilled to have our lead sound engineer and producer Aaron Gandia join our band on drums, and the amazing Ry Kovacevich, also from Phat Planet Studios and graduate of the Berklee College of Music, join us on lead guitar. We have also had rare appearances of Neal Phillips from Spayed Koolie join us on fiddle for some of our live shows.
Continue to keep a look out for more on the growth of our band, and dates out on the town. We have been working hard for over a year on a whole new batch of songs that we plan on releasing in the early winter of 2018. See you soon.
