HIPPIES AND BEAUTY QUEENS, our first record as BLUEANIMAL, 13 original songs by Luke and Matt, plus a couple of extra surprises. The record crosses several genres of music (we've referred to it as a genregasm) and will make ya rock out and dance, sing, laugh and cry. The album features Luke Elms on lead vocals and guitars, Matt Lube on electric and acoustic basses, Ryan Wright (Delray Beach, FL) on drums, and Jarrod Moore (Tulsa, OK) on lead / rhythm guitars. We were also fortunate to have many local session musicians add their talents including: Forest Rogers on mandolin, dobro and banjo, our friend Neal Phillips (of Spayed Koolie, Mt Dora FL) on fiddle, Paul Fleury on cello, good ole Joe Meadows on trumpet and his bandmate Frank Wosar on trombone, Jack Pearson on harmonica and Ed Krout (owner of Phat Planet) on keys. Our producer Aaron Gandia helped out with percussion. The record also features Christina Bowers singing on Free. Kevin Day of Gigglejuice (East Hampton, CT) tracked drums on Instant Friend and also added several backing vocal tracks.
This album would not have been possible without our friends at Phat Planet Studios, including our wonderful producer and chief sound engineer Aaron "Phat Chief" Gandia, sound engineer Pete Lutringer (also adding guitars on Free), sound engineer Elliot Glenn as well as Matt Kamm (also once again helping (doing!) backing vocals) and assistant engineer Ry Kovacevich (also adding guitar on Uncle Paulie). We were thrilled and wanted to make it a point to have most everyone from the studio add to our songs in some way, shape or form. We can't say enough about the quality of the product at Phat Planet, and most importantly the individuals that work there. We hope this is the first of many BLUEANIMAL projects to be completed there in the years to come.
